Carolina Herrera's objects of affection

THE PIECES CHOSEN for this photograph are all very meaningful to me. I see them every day so I must love them! One of my favorite pictures of my husband, Reinaldo, is front and center, while the largest object, the horse, sits on the right side. It was given to me by Reinaldo and reminds me of the days when I went horseback riding. Growing up, I never thought about fashion, I was interested in my horses and tennis. I also keep a four-leaf clover heart that I stumbled upon in Klagenfurt, Austria, which is in front of Reinaldo's picture. It brings me good luck. The silver magnifying glass and small silver box were passed on to me by my father. I always use the concise Oxford English dictionary for reference: One is at home, one is on my desk and one travels with me. An item is my CH Agenda. I have all of my children and grandchildren's birthdays in it, color-coded with small symbols. I keep a painting by the Los Angeles artist Alexander Mihaylovich beside a Robert Mapplethorpe photograph—one of the first in a series that he took of body builder Lisa Lyon. She is wearing one of my favorite dresses from my first collection. All of the objects sit underneath the portrait of me painted by Andy Warhol at the Factory in 1979.
